2011 Ford Fiesta Sales Show Trend Toward Hatchbacks


The sales of the 2011 Ford Fiesta show the popularity of five-door (hatchback) vehicles:
  • New 2011 Ford Fiesta hatchback sales are countering conventional wisdom about hatch popularity in the U.S. market; Ford also is preparing to launch its all-new Focus in both hatch and sedan bodystyles
  • When Focus goes on sale, Ford will be the only full-line auto manufacturer to offer its B- and C-segment small cars in both sedan and hatch bodystyles in the U.S. market
  • American buyers may be showing shift to the utility of hatch configurations seen in other countries; European hatch take rates approach 99 percent in C-segment vehicles

Ford F-150 Will Take On Baja 1000 Off-Road Desert Race

The 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost will enter into November's Baja 1000 Off-Road Desert Race:

•A 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost™ engine will take on the demanding Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 long-distance desert endurance race later this year, marking Ford’s EcoBoost engine racing debut. Ford trucks have won more Baja 1000 titles (13) than any other four-wheel manufacturer


•Ford will equip the F-150 off-road race truck with the same stock EcoBoost engine that already has experienced 150,000 equivalent miles of dyno testing and other real-world tests as the final step in the durability torture tests

•The EcoBoost truck engine is tested to the equivalent of more than 1.6 million total miles of harsh customer use in the lab, in test cells and on the road

•The new F-150 EcoBoost has 420 lb.-ft. of torque – more than any competitive half-ton truck – and provides an unequaled combination of capability and fuel economy

•Racing the EcoBoost truck engine under these conditions, which include temperature swings from just above freezing to well above 100 degrees, harsh terrain and at least 30 hours driving the course, helps validate the testing of the new truck engine

Ford's Super Duty Power Stroke Diesel Takes Top Honors

The Ford Super Duty Power Stroke Diesel took top honors in the first ever Ward's Diesel Shootout:

Ford wins the first-ever Diesel Shootout with a clean-sheet engine designed in Dearborn to replace the Super Duty’s powerplant supplied for years by Navistar International Corp. That relationship ended acrimoniously in 2008, forcing Ford engineers to go it alone.


From the composite oil pan and compacted graphite iron block to the cleverly packaged small-frame dual-compressor turbocharger placed beneath the intake manifold between the cylinder banks, the new Power Stroke is a magnificent piece of machinery, arguably the finest heavy-duty pickup diesel of the modern era.

2011 Ford Focus Offers New Airbag Technology

The 2011 Ford Focus will offer new airbag technology, enhancing crash protection:

•All-new 2012 Ford Focus will offer an exclusive suite of innovative airbags that help customize protection in the most common frontal and side crashes


•Focus is launching Ford’s next-generation driver-front airbag with enhanced chest protection technology designed to help reduce chest and rib injuries

•Innovative side airbags help enhance chest protection for front seat occupants with shoulder vents that deliver varying levels of pressure based on the size of the occupant and how much of their shoulder blocks the vent

•Focus will be Ford’s first car ever with a front passenger airbag with adaptive venting designed to help enhance head and neck protection by better matching deployment force with occupant size

•The next-generation airbags will debut as standard equipment on the all-new Ford Focus on sale early in 2011 in North America. The new airbags will roll out on other Ford vehicles in the next few years
