2011 Ford Transit Connect Adds Comfort and Convenience Features


The 2011 Ford Transit Connect debuted a new model at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show.  The XLT Premium Wagon will add a variety of comfort and convenience features:

•Ford Transit Connect – 2010 North American Truck of the Year – is expanding its lineup with the addition of a Transit Connect XLT Premium Wagon offering


•Transit Connect XLT Premium Wagon offers seating for five passengers with enhanced interior appointments and visibility from integrated blind-spot mirrors, a rear view camera and flip-open rear quarter windows

XLT Premium Wagon offers enhanced second-row passenger comfort, including cargo space surface trim, wheelhouse covers and flip-open rear quarter windows for draft-free ventilation.


This personal-use package gives owners and drivers additional confidence with blind-spot sideview mirrors, rear view camera, rear cargo door windows and privacy glass.

Ford Helps Feed Those in Need

Ford has implemented programs to help feed those in need during the Holiday season:

•Thousands of seniors, homeless and families in need in southeast Michigan will enjoy hot meals and food packages during the holiday season with support from Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford Volunteer Corps.


•High school students in southeast Michigan can use their creativity to turn donated food items into a look-alike Ford Explorer and win a school-wide pizza party and school supplies.

•Ford Motor Company Fund and Newman’s Own have donated trucks in all 50 states to affiliates of Feeding America, the nation’s largest network of food banks.

For more than 37 million Americans, Thanksgiving Day is another day of food insecurity, described in the 2010 study by Feeding America as not knowing where they will find their next meal. Ford Motor Company is partnering with Feeding America affiliate food banks and other organizations on a number of initiatives aimed at providing needed support.

Meet the Adaptable 2011 Ford Explorer

The 2011 Ford Explorer will present a wide range of adaptability, making it the perfect vehicle for a variety of consumers:

•Innovative technology creates new 2011 Explorer that adapts to drivers and roads to deliver new levels of comfort and safety


•The new Explorer will be one of Ford’s first vehicles with four-way head restraints designed to provide occupant protection and more adjustable comfort for passengers of different heights, while encouraging proper use of restraints

Ford to Offer Four 40-mpg Vehicles in 2011

Ford will be offering the widest line-up of fuel-efficient vehicles in the industry in 2011.  This will include four vehicles with 40-mpg!

•Ford will add its fourth nameplate in 2011 with 40 mpg or higher fuel economy, more than any other full-line manufacturer


•Today, the company already is delivering the broadest vehicle lineup of fuel efficiency leaders: 13 Ford and Lincoln nameplates available in 2011 will lead their sales segments in fuel economy

•Powerful, fuel-saving EcoBoost™ engines arrive in 2011 for Ford F-150, Explorer and Edge – boosting fuel efficiency by up to 20 percent versus larger-displacement engines

“We are bringing customers the most fuel-efficient product portfolio in Ford’s 107-year history, and customers are taking notice,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “From sports cars and hybrids to SUVs and pickups, Ford is delivering the broadest range of fun-to-drive products that are among the industry’s best in fuel economy.”


Three 2011 models achieve at least 40 mpg – Fiesta SE with SFE package (40 mpg highway), Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid (41 mpg city). Early next year, the all-new 2012 Focus is expected to join Ford’s 40-mpg club.

No other automaker offers four nameplates with 40-mpg ratings, according to the 2011 EPA Fuel Economy Guide.

2012 Mustang Boss Will Offer TracKey

The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss will offer an exciting feature...the TracKey:

•TracKey, available for 2012 Mustang Boss 302 owners through Ford dealers, adds TracMode powertrain control software to the car for track use, providing full race calibration and two-stage launch control in addition to stock calibration, without compromising factory warranty


•Using a dual-path powertrain control module (PCM), TracKey software is installed after the vehicle is purchased; accessed by a specially programmed vehicle key, new code coexists with stock Boss software, allowing drivers to choose between street or track use simply by selecting a key

•No aftermarket chips or permanent modifications are made when TracKey is used, allowing owners to return to the stock setting by starting the car with a regular key

Ford & MIT Study Shows Technology Reduces Driver Stress

Ford Motor Company and MIT have released the results of a study that shows reduced stress when drivers utilize technological advancements in their vehicle:

•Ford and MIT research study explored automotive technology solutions designed to reduce driver stress and improve overall driver safety and well-being


•Physiological measures to detect stress were monitored using a specially equipped 2010 Lincoln MKS test vehicle

•Data indicate parallel parking is a highly avoided and stress-inducing driving situation for many drivers; use of advanced technology resulted in a more than 12 beats per minute (bpm) reduction in heart rate

•Testing shows not only a reduction in stress, but positive driver reaction to new technologies

Ford Educates Consumers About Electrified Vehicles

Ford has developed a new website aimed at providing consumers with details of electrified vehicles:

•New Ford Web site, http://www.fordvehicles.com/technology/electric/, offers video, text and diagrams to help consumers understand differences in the technologies of electrified vehicles


•Electrification is an important piece of Ford’s overall sustainability strategy designed to deliver affordable fuel economy options for consumers

•Over the next two years, Ford will introduce the Transit Connect Electric, a small commercial van (2010), the Ford Focus Electric passenger car (2011), two next generation lithium ion battery powered hybrids (2012) and a plug-in hybrid (2012).
